It Is In Your Hands Now
Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa | Hand-dyed cotton, commercial cottons, polyester batting; machine pieced and quilted, hand embroidered

I saw a billboard with Mandela's face and the words "It's in your hands now". The embroidery in my quilt implies that he held the different threads of this diverse nation together from 1992 to 1994, when the nation was very apprehensive about the future and was on the brink of civil war. The nation has now passed from one leader to another, and it is up to all South Africans to hold true to his legacy.
