Other Notes: The quiltmaker used her husband's great great grandmother's quilting frame, dating from 1855, to make this quilt. The quilting frame was given to her by her husband as a wedding gift., This quiltmaker's parents died when she was young, and she was brought up by an Aunt who was a Home Demonstration Agent. She drilled into her niece the concept of "Eat it up. Wear it out, Make it do or do without." Mrs. Schorfheide recalls that "in 1972 I was too cheap to pay $16.00 for a patchwork pillow & went home & made them myself. Out of that grew the desire to make quilts." She took some quilting classes at a neighbor's house and in Both Arkansas and Texas. Today it takes her about 1 1/2 to 3 1/2 years to make one of her fullsize hand-made quilts.
