description
Newspaper clipping from the Detroit Free Press. This was a series of patterns published every Sunday. They were part of the Nancy Page Quilt Club and were printed full size for piecing and applique. The name of the quilt is Garden Bouquet. The first week was an illustration of a woman holding the Garden Bouquet quilt. The patterns were published full size and printed every Sunday. The first pattern was the urn. The second was the tulip. The next two were the meek bird and the saucy bird. Each urn had the two birds on it and a different flower. There were a total of 20 blocks. The flowers included: tulip, cactus, lily of the valley, wild rose, trillium, canterbury bell, nasturtium. The first pattern was printed on January 31, 1932. The remaining patterns were published each Sunday. You could also order a leaflet with instructions on how to finish the quilt. Past patterns were available for 5 cents each. This is the first pattern offered, "First Bouquet Garden Pattern Is Urn; Look for Tulip Design Here Next Week." During the week a small reminder of Sunday's offerings was printed. It was a thumbnail sketch of the urn with the two birds and the trillum flower. It reminded readers to order the instruction leaflet and past patterns.
