Beauty in the Home
This department seeks to give assistance to all who are interested in beautifying their homes and will be glad to answer questions pertaining to interior decoration. In order to serve all who seek advice promptly no more than three problems will be discussed in any one reply. Readers are invited to write to this department as often as thy wish, but limit each letter to three questions. State your questions clearly, write only on one side of the paper, enclosing a self addressed stamped envelope and address Beauty in the Home Department, Detroit News. Letters with their answers will be published for the benefit of all homemakers, but names and addresses will not be made public.

The breakfast corner has become an institution in our hurried lives. At the outset, a feature of small apartments in town, it has now been elevated to indispensability even in country house of moderate size.

This evolution in view of the many advantages of such an arrangement for small informal meals was inevitable. At the present moment, our problem lies merely in the decoration of these corners so as to achieve individually.

Sketched here is a breakfast nook designed for two people, distinctive by reason of its pleasing designed furniture. In a small cottage a corner of this type might be incorporated in the plan of the living room where its simply designed tabled and bench would be entirely at home and ready at all times for use.

The introduction of such a corner into the living room or kitchen of a country house permits the reservation of the dining room in good order for more important occasions.

In a city apartment, it often means the possibility of doing away with a dining room altogether. Where rents are measured by the room, this is no small item for consideration.

Closet Wall Color
Do the walls of the closets which open directly off from bedrooms have to be decorated to match the bedrooms?
My bedrooms are all papered and I did not know whether to have the closets papered or painted and if the latter what color. I should use your suggestions will be appreciated.

Mrs. W.E

You may have your choice of treatments for the closet walls, but I think that you will like them better if they are painted in a color to harmonize with the design in the paper and then the paper may be used for the covering of boxes to be used in the closet.
This would be much more effective than papering the walls and covering the boxes in a plain or small figured paper.
