Blocks described top left to lower right. #1 'Rocky Road to California '(Brackman 1693 a; Rehmel 451). 9.875” square. 2 full corner blocks white organic stripe on medium blue, resist dye or bleach. 5 small squares of medium blue with white dots, 1 square of medium blue with larger, more random dots. Resist dye or bleach. Similar to #4 #2 'Double X #1' (Brackman 1689 a; Rehmel 446). 8” square. White geometric print stripes on dark blue, resist dye or bleach, sheen to fabric indicates some starch. Set with light fabric, small black geometric print on white ground. #3 'Double X #3', 'Triple X' (Barton); Old Maid’s Puzzle (Brackman 1314 a). 11” square. White circles and dots in chevron stripe pattern on dark blue ground. Set light fabric of black geometric print on white ground. #4 'Rocky Road to California'(Brackman 1693 a; Rehmel 451). 10” square. White floral print on dark blue ground, white probably printed. All these sections have been pieced to fit in. The upper left block was pieced with a different blue and white floral. White floral print on medium blue ground, used in four large triangles. The upper two are pieced to fit. Two corner squares are white paisley and dot stripes on medium blue ground. Small brown dots on white ground. Squares of white fabric set with squares of dark blue to form 3 four-patch blocks diagonally set through block. #6 'Hexagons'(Brackman 160 a). 10.375” x 17.875”. Dark areas are small geometric designs printed white on dark blue, 12 hexagons around outside. Light areas are small black floral and line print on white ground, 4 hexagons in center. #7 'Monkey Wrench' (Brackman 1646 a); Double Wrench (Rehmel 282). 11.5” square. Small white dot pattern printed on dark blue. Set with dark brown floral print on white ground. #8 'Ohio Star' (Brackman 1631 c); Point Star (Rehmel 786). 8” square. Small white leaf design printed on dark blue. Set with small brown dots on white. Light squares pieced with tiny blue dots on white. These scraps used to fill in larger squares. #9 'Windmill' (Barton); Martha Washington Star, Dewey’s Victory (Brackman 2147; Rehmel 776). 10” square. Blue areas all same fabric – white floral/geometric dot pattern printed on dark blue. Light areas consist of different fabrics. 3 triangles are brown print stripe on white ground, remaining triangles are brown dot and circle print on white. #10 Unknown Pattern. 11.25” square. 3 large corner triangles and interior rectangle patches of mustard yellow floral and white dot stripes on dark blue ground. Center patch, and 7 triangles of geometric red print and zigzag stripe on white ground. #11 'Moon and Star' (Brackman 2212). 10.25” square. Small white arrow print on dark blue, resist dye or bleach. Paisley print on muted tints of peach, yellow/green, and grey. #12 'Wild Goose' (Brackman 2796). 9.75” square. White dot stripe printed on dark blue, bluish tinge indicates resist dye or bleach. Triangles and center square are white/medium blue woven stripe. Stripes of both fabrics are not consistently placed. #13 'Ocean Waves' (Brackman 283; Rehmel 1284). 6.375” x 12.625”. Small white abstract print on dark blue, resist dye or bleach. Set with green, tan, and white plaid. #14 'Flying Geese' patches. 11” square. Center and corner patches are white geometric stripe print on medium blue. Geese patches are blue dots on white ground. Geese move clockwise #15 'Monkey Wrench' (Brackman 1646 a); Double Wrench (Rehmel 282). 4.75” square. White dots in 2 sizes on dark blue, set with brown dots in circle pattern on white. #16 'Flying Geese' patches. 10.5” square. Center and corner patches are white stripes on dark blue. Geese patches are small black geometric print on white. Geese move clockwise. Similar to #14.
