Features or notes about the quilt's appearance, materials, or construction:

4 blocks described top left to bottom right. All fabrics c.1855. #1 The Little Cedar Tree (Brackman 1311 a). 6.875” square. This is a four patch made of half square triangles. Each square is placed exactly the same way so that the top left half is dark and bottom right half is light. Background is white with one triangle having been replaced. Brown stripe designs feature an undulating leaf and flowered design “crawling” along the white stripe. The flowers are orange and the leaves are light brown. #2 Ohio Star, The Cog Block (Brackman 2141 c). 8.375” square. Variation on the pattern. In a true Ohio Star, the center is a light rather than a dark. Fabrics are circular patterned orange print with white circles outlined in black, white ground. #3 Album, Puzzle, The Basketweave, Friendship Quilt, Five Crosses (Brackman 2812). 10.75” square. Variation because center square fabrics are placed opposite Brackman illustration. This pattern (2812) was the only one of its type to show the center X pieced from a rectangle and two square. Fabrics are blue stripe with a blue ‘bar’ pattern, khaki-like fabric in center, orange circle print. #4 Checkerboard, Nine Patch (Brackman 1601 a). 8.5” square. Both fabrics in this block are brown and orange prints with white. One is a bar design that creates the diagonal. The other is a rock-like print with some shapes being all white or partially white.
