This quilt presents a view of the New England Quilt Museum from the corner of Shattuck and Middle Street. The Museum is in the former Lowell Institution for Savings building, designed in the Greek Revival style by Josiah Peabody and built in 1845. One can imagine how many mill workers stepped through its doors to deposit their hard-earned wages. The 18,000 square feet of space in the rhomboidal building include exhibition galleries, a library, collection storage, staff offices, and support areas. Visitors find delight in a vault that can be seen from the Museum shop, a reminder of the building's past. Two other vaults house the permanent collection and archives.
