Essay:
Arabian Gold
1998
Suzanne Knapp
Lowell, Massachusetts
76"w x 95"h
Hand & machine pieced; hand appliqué; hand quilted
Cotton fabric
Suzanne Knapp was inspired to make Arabian Gold by a carpet published in Jon Thompson's Oriental Carpets. The intricate background of the carpet was interpreted with a pieced stylized vine superimposed on two meandering floral fabrics, while the medallions were designed to exploit the patterns in the fabrics available.
