Massachusetts
135"w x 45"h (in three panels)
Hand appliqué; machine pieced; painted; hand quilted
Cotton & cotton blends, nylon netting, metallic thread, acrylic paint
"Withering Wetlands" portrays the destruction of valuable wetlands... Withing the quilt is the aquatic plant and animal life which is endangered by the menacing machinery and pleasure boats. The machine stitching used as embellishment is a loose interpretation of a chart recording the rise and fall of the tides, and the ellipse of the marsh marigolds represents the solar year. The quilt is part of a series of "Soft Protests" quilts made by Nancy Crasco in the 1990s.
