Essay:
In 1996, Eraina Palmer (Wasco Warm Springs Hoopa) made this quilt in memory of her grandmother, Ruby Coone. Traditional Wasco believe that each person has an Indian spirit animal (Ta Wan Mus) for his or her medicine. When you are young you are sent on a journey up a mountain. On this trip, you will converse with a special animal and that animal will become your medicine power for all of your life. In the center of each log cabin block is fabric printed with an eagle, Coone's spirit animal.

Describe anything about the design of the quilt that wasn't already recorded in a previous field:
The quilt is in memory of my Grandmother Ruby Coone. Her Ta wan mus or Indian spirit animal for her medicine was an eagle so I had her in mind when I made this quilt. Along time ago you were sent up a mountain when you were young and an animal talked to you and you conversed with this special animal and that was your big medicine power all your life. As a matter of fact she left a pair of Indian Shaker Religious bells and the Shakers see talons on those bells when they are up by the alter. My grandmother still has her power on those bells.
