Describe anything about the history of the quilt that wasn't already recorded in a previous field:

The quilt, "Samantha' s Dolphins" was made as a gift for my internet friend's daughter, for her first baby, Samantha. I've never met my internet friend (and sister in Christ) Delane in person, nor have I ever met her daughter, whom I made the wall hanging for. The wall hanging was made with love and thanks for encouragement, prayers, generosity received by Delane. Letter in file: April 13, 2003 In May of 1998-after surgery, my Father wasn't expected to live. And shortly after, my Mother was told that she might have breast cancer. That was five years ago as I write this. And now I can tell you that I have been blessed. My Father is still alive, although he is now in hospice, we have had him for five years longer than the doctors said we would. And my Mom, well she did not have breast cancer. Praise God. During the time that all of this started happening with my parents, I received an internet e-zine which contained a Heartwarming story delivered to my email box five days a week. And as i read each story, I felt the need to share mine. So I visited their website called Heartwarmers. What I found there was stories past and that the publishers were looking for more Heartwarming stories. So, it was then that I decided to write down my feelings, some Heartwarming memories of my parents. It was a way of releasing all of the pain that I had felt inside and a way of dealing with an ailing heart. So I wrote my story and submitted it to Heartwarmers, and to my surprise they published that first story in their next e-zine. From that story, I received approximately 150 emails from around the world and the USA. They were letters from people telling me how my story had touched their hearts, how they could sympathize. Their letters were of encouragement and hope to me. One of those emails was from a dear lady named Delane Allen from Baxley, Georgia. She was one who offered me encouragement and more than that, she offered prayer. She went to her congregation at church and together they prayed for my Dad. How did i know that she was actually doing what she said? Well, she had taken a tape recorder to church and recorded her minister asking everyone to pray for my Dad, and then she sent the tape to me, so that my Mom and I could hear it and have hope. She not only continued to pray in this way, but she sent my Mom and I gifts. One of the gifts was flowers for my Mom for Mothers Day, even though Delane had never met me or my parents. She said that she wanted to show the love of Christ. Although Delane was experiencing her own pain in the tragic loss of her nephew, who was killed by a drunk driver, she continued to pray for us. And I and my family would pray for her. Then in May of 2002, I decided that I wanted to do something special for Delane, as a way of expressing my thanks for all that she had done. So, I planned to make a baby quilt to welcome her first Grandchild into the world. I found out when the baby was due and the theme in her daughter's nursery. I asked Delaneto send to me, five pictures that her daughter Selena would want in a special photo albuj, keeping the quilt a surprise. I do to work on the wall-hanging in May 2002, and by August of 2002 it was completed. I was excited and hoping to get it to her before the baby was born, but, in June, Samantha Lane arrived early due to complications, and I would go the Lord in prayer. Well, thanks be to God Samantha would be fine and in August 2002, I mailed the wall-hanging to Delane and her daughter. I heard from them right away, telling me of how much they loved it and how they and their relatives were taking turns taking it to work to show it off. How surprised they were! And I was so happy, to have sent them something unique, one of a kind, made from my heart, something that would express my love for a long long time. And today, Samantha's Dolphins is stored for safe keeping for when baby Samantha gets older. Four more of my stories would be published by Heartwarmers, but in their series of books called "Heartwarmers." Linda Ferris
