Describe anything about the history of the quilt that wasn't already recorded in a previous field:
The following note was attached to this quilt when if found in a trunk. The trunk was found in a basement that had flooded! History of "Pumpkin Blossom' Antique Quilt Age of Quilt 127 Years About the year 1840 in the town of Lebanon, Ohio, Miss Mary Frances Brown made this quilt and was assisted by her sweetheart Anthony Wayne Musgrove. He did some of the sewing and a great deal of the quilting and dyeing some of the cloth. He was a student of the Normal School. Mr. Musgrove lost the sight of his eyes at the age of five years, yet could do so many things well; he graduated from the Ohio University as a minister at the age of 30 and married Miss Mary Brown who had been a school teacher and assisted her sweetheart in his studies while he was a student. After their marriage they went to Addison (now named Christiansburg) Ohio. Rev. Musgrove was an iterant preacher and traveled with horse and buggy, with a boy to do driving all through Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana, that was called circuit riding, often had to ford streams to get to chapels, and sometimes where there was no chuch, he would hold services in the house or field, preaching every day of the week. Salary $100 a year and provisions donated. When their son Charles (my first husband) was born Rev. Musgrove made a quilt complete, even to dyeing the cloth, while he stayed at home during the illness of his wife. Regret I have not that quilt now. Respectfully submitted by Mrs. Willis Bee Smith 1006 Carmel Ave. Detroit, Mich. For sale $100 One Hundred dollars note: When the quilt was 127 years old Mrs. Alfred Coon re-typed the above message onto new paper. Both pieces of paper survived the flood but are difficult to read. This typing was done October, 2001.
