Biography of the quiltmaker?

Simms lived with an Old Order Amish family in Middlebury, Indiana, when researching her thesis while a student at Kalamazoo College in Kalamazoo, Michigan. It was during this time that Simms took her first stitches in a quilt. Simms is now very active in organizing quilt shows and teaching quilting.

This quilt represents a big chunk our of my life. Between the time it was first conceived and later completed, we applied to adopt a child, had our home study, received our assignment, greeted our Korean daughter at the airport, and lost her maternal grandfather to cancer. Drafted pattern for blocks on March 29, 1983, from postcard purchased in Pennsylvania. Border drafted July 6, 7, 1983. Top completed August 20, 1983. In frame August 22, 1983. Quilt completed February 1, 1984.
