Essay:

Appliqué blocks are alternated with embroidered blocks done in the hurmutch stitch. This stitch is a complex interlacing stitch characteristic of Pakistan and Indian embroidery. The embroidery uses very bright threads. The quilt has bead and yarn tassels around the outer edge. The edge itself is over sewn with gold thread. The back is dark green. The ralli itself is unusually large. This indicates that it was especially made, most likely as a gift for a wedding.
