Features or notes about the quilt's appearance, materials, or construction:
This quilt has a variety of brown prints set together in wild goose chase style with white. The triangular “geese” are a wonderful mix of mid-19th century prints including madder red-orange and brown, chrome orange, rainbow prints (grading in color), and Prussian and indigo blue. Brown was a relatively easy color to obtain with vegetable dyes. Brown was also a common home-dyed color because it could be made from plants like black walnut and butternut hulls. The pink fabric is a pleasing combination with the browns, greens, and blues in this quilt. This quilt is circa 1860.
