Describe present uses of the quilt:
For many years, Allegan's First Congregational Church has been a meeting place for sewing quilts. Some of the church women belong to a quilt guild called the Iron Bridge Quilters. They are Marilyn Cook, Judy Gavan, Connie Hall, Marilyn Henkel, Jane Thomas, and Stella Vahue. This guild grew to a memberhsip too large to continue in their dining room and now meets in the basement at the Blessed Sacrament Church. When a quilt is needed for a fundraiser these women have stepped up to provide many beautiful quilts. Because a history of quilts has been created here in the church it was decided a quilt was needed to commemorate the 150 years of service to the Allegan community. This quilt was made in commemoration of the 150 years of the Church's service in its community. The stain glass window stories are the inspiration for its design. The combined effort of members and friends of the church have completed the quilt within four months. Praise God for each one of them for their beautiful work and enthusiasm! They are: Olga Allen, Sue Belden, Fran Brown, Margaret Brown, Dorothy Chacey, Elaine Cochran, Julie DeHaan, Tonya Goodenough, Kim Harness, Connie Hall, Ana Hedberg, Marilyn Henkel, Elsie Jones, Gloria Lane, Carrie Lovett, Susan Lucas, Dean Michaels, Carrie Nielson, Janet Siegler, Jane Thomas, and Rose Walker. The coordinator and designer of this original quilt is Jane Thomas. The center image of the quilt is as the church looks at the present time 2008. The backing of the quilt is signed by all who have participated in the celebration. Connie Hall and Jane Thomas assembled the quilt top. Hand quilting in the center is by Jane Thomas. The machine quilting is by Nancy Jacobs. The materials for this quilt were graciously provided from the Women's Fellowship Fund. June 8th 2008.
