Describe anything about the history of the quilt that wasn't already recorded in a previous field:
This quilt was made for entry into the quilt contest held by Sears, Roebuck and Co. at the Sears Pavillion during the 1933 Century of Progress Exhibition in Chicago. Entries were to highlight "a century of progress," as determined by the quilter. Prize money was considerable ($1,000 during the Depression) and thousands of quilts were sewn and entered. This quilt includes an applique depiction of a "modern," deco-style city (presumably Akron, Ohio) surrounded by appliqued dirigibles, airplanes and hot-air ballons.
