Tell the story of how the quilt was obtained:
Donated to the museum by: Jane Egan and Sue Egan on October 8, 1985. Relationship to maker: Great-granddaughters. From the home Mrs. Flavia Marie Theresse Barbeau (James) Pendill (b. 1832 - d.1908). In 1985 the Egan sisters gave MRHC a large collection of items that they inherited. Included were several quilts that came from the home of Flavia Pendill, their great-grandmother. There is no written confirmation that she in fact was the maker of the quilts however some of the quilts show her initials or names of her family. Most are dated within her life span and show similar materials and workmanship qualities. The maker was very skilled with the needle. There is a great intricacy and variety in the embroidery stitch combinations. There are many similarities to the stitching found in Flavia's other quilts in the museum collection. The Pendills were a wealthy family which also has some significance to the quality of the silks used in Flavia's quilts. There is an abundance of information in the MRHC resource library about the Pendill family.
