Essay:
"Although not composed along the lines of conventional block or applique quilts, this art quilt has the requisite three layers of the standard quilt. My choice of the quilt medium for Interior was not an issue for me. As a former painter and printmaker, I can attest that I would not have chosen either of those media for this work. Neither method would have the advantage of the visual textures inherent in various patterned textiles. The tactile quality of the fabric itself, augmented by the soft dimensional qualities of the quilting, would not have been possible. Most other two-dimensional art media, except for assemblage/collage, would not normally include anything like the applique elements used here. There is also the 'make do' aspect of using scraps or waste materials - in this case, selvages - which is a time-honored aspect of quilting. Therefore, this is a quilt."
