Essay:
"This small piece, Bowsprit, is a sample of some of my current favorite ways to produce an art quilt: direct hand inking, painting, or drawing on fabric, and digital printing onto fabric. In this way, classic art techniques and modern technology combine. Fabric lends a unique warmth and textural richness that paint and ink on paper and canvas do not. There is always some dimensionality in quilted fabric art pieces, as well, that is inherently tactile. And we all relate to fabric in an intimate way, having been wrapped and garbed in it all our lives. I choose to do art quilts because I love working with the medium."
