Essay:
"Quilt-making is full of surprises! Even when a pattern or technique is determined, the final outcome can be quite unpredictable. Colour combinations play off each other unexpectedly, and unforeseen patterns appear. In this square, hidden sparks of colour and pattern reveal themselves bit by bit as pieces are cut through the stitched layers. The unknown is the adventure. Not all media are as susceptible to this element of surprise. Printmaking and quilting, which this piece combines, are particularly prone to the 'happy accident' and it's the main reason I love to work with them."
