Essay:
"This piece fits the SAQA definition of an art quilt because it is a traditional three-part sandwich made of fabric, batting, and backing, held together with thread; it is contemporary because the fabric is monoprinted, discharged, and thread-painted. The quilt is my medium because I love the tactile, textural quality of fabric. Fabric is also versatile in being able to accommodate stitching, painting, dyeing, discharge, and other drawing and painting techniques. Fabric also has the ability to be manipulated, draped, folded, pleated, etc. And, perhaps most importantly, the art quilt has roots in traditional quilting, which I have long loved and admired."
