Essay:
"People often react to my work by saying 'I thought it was a painting! I didn't realize it's a quilt.' The truth is, to me each one is a painting that came to life in quilt form. Creating fiber art allows me to paint, draw, and sculpt all at once. I can't draw with colored pencil on top of an oil painting. But I can use my sewing machine to draw fine lines on top of bold areas of colored fabric, at the same time creating a three-dimensional, textured surface. With art quilts I can explore a much wider range of artistic territory."
