The Long Walk is Over
Cape Town, Western Cape, South Africa | Cottons; free-motion appliqued, machine pieced, embroidered and quilted

With the passing in 2013 of such a great South African icon and the feeling of huge loss and sadness that the entire country experienced, this opportunity to create something in his memory came at just the right time.

For the design of this quilt, I was inspired by a song written by a friend of mine, Don Clarke, and Kalla Bremer, whose song "The Long Walk is Over" was the grand prize winner in the Great American Song Contest this year (www.greatamericansong.com/hall-of-fame). The song popped up on my Facebook page at exactly the time that I was trying to think of a theme/design for my entry, so I figure that was serendipitous. Don kindly gave me permission to use the images and words in any way I chose.
