Essay:

Petersheim made this quilt to raise awareness and funds to benefit Amish children with the Crigler-Naijar Syndrome. She and other Amish and Mennonite quiltmakers work through Carey Harrison, a non-Amish, who grew up with the Amish in Ohio and Pennsylvania and sells quilts through her store in Horseshoe Bend, Idaho, or on EBay. Carey says that: “Crigler-Najjar is my project to help these very special children. When my husband passed away from prostrate, bone and brain cancer this past year he was covered with a quilt made by my Amish friend Ada Miller of Shipshewana, Indiana. When I pass away I want to be covered with this same quilt. My Amish friends are very special to me and pray for me and others all the time. I am blessed to know them.”
