Artist statement about work:
Every antique shop that I visit becomes a nostalgic search for Black Americana art collectibles. When I thumbed through an old music album bin, I discovered the striking pose of an expressive "sistergirl" printed on sheet music labeled "Underneath the Harlem Moon" (words by Mack Gordon, Music by Harry Revel, Published by De Sylva Brown and Henderson Inc in 1932). The beauty of a flower, a sunset, a mosaic print... They all become an imprint of a quilted work of art in my mind's eye. So it was with this old sheet music! My work expresses the rhythm of our feet and in our lips and in our eyes!
