Essay:
Artist Statement about work: quilt is part of a series of 12 quilts called African Jazz. Represents artist impression of musicians (African) source was a poster by Jurgen Schadeberg (South African photographer). This was my first large narrative series. Theme and construction allowed a fusion of abstract and quilt techniques.
Description: The focus is three men- one is playing the saxophone, the other the keyboard, and the third the cello. There's a green, white and red floral print in the background, there's also geometric shapes and African prints on the bottom part of the background.
