Essay:

The original quilt which inspired Mary Schafer’s lifetime quilting passion. Saddened that this quiltmaker’s work had fallen into such a poor condition, Mary did everything she could to restore the quilt.

Tell the story of how the quilt was obtained:

Mary Schafer found the quilt in the trunk of her son's car following a beach party in 1954. Mary named the pattern Linden Mill because of the pinwheel shape and the quilt was found in Linden, Michigan, which had a historic mill. Her pieced quilt was a copy of this one, made to honor the unknown quiltmaker who made this.
