Michgan Christian Advocate June 18, 1981 "CHRIST IN GETHESEMANE" QUILT TO BE SHOWN AT ARLINGTON A reproduction of the painting, "Christ in Gethsemane" was done in a quilted wall hanging by Mary Lou Ridley of South Haven. It was hung in the Casco United Methodist Church during Lent. It will be on exhibit at the National Quilt Show in Arlington, Va., in July and at the Little Log church at the Allegan County Fair in Sept. The banner took five months to complete and is done in the stained glass effect. Mrs. Ridley will also be the first speaker at the Twelfth National Quilt Show in Arlington, Va. She will speak on "Michigan Quilters Sharing the Joy." Any quilter that would like to share a picture of his/her quilt may call Mrs. Ridley at 637-4214. Mary Lou Ridley and her son John are both members of Casco United Methodist Church. This quilted reproductioon of a painting, "Christ in Gethsemane," will be among the exhibits during July at the 12th Annual National Quilt Show in Arlington, Va., for which Mary Lou Ridley of Casco will speak on "Michigan Quilters Sharing the Joy." A member of the Lakeshore Queen Bees, Mrs. Ridley completed this wall hanging in five months. It hung in the Casco United Methodist Church during Lent, and it will also be displayed in the old log church in the historical section of the Allegan County Fairgrounds in September during the County Fair. Since the members of the quilting club plan to attend the national quilt show next month, their regular area July quilt show has been re-scheduled to April 24, 1982 in the Hope Reformed Church of South Haven. Mary Lou Ridley of Casco Township won first place in the 1981 Michigan State Fair's "Any Other Needlecraft and Other Handicraft Contest" with this quilted wall-hanging, "Christ and Gethsemane," which she also exhibited last July at the National Quilt Association Show in Arlington, Va., where she won the Sterns & Foster annual quilt award. TO ATTEND QUILT SHOW Club Elects Officers SOUTH HAVEN - Lakeshore Queen Bees Quilting Club has elected Mrs. Charlie (Gladys) Ridley as president. Other new officers are Mrs. Ozie (Mary) Thompson, vice president; and Mrs. Gerhardt (Marge) Radtke, secretary-treasurer. The club has chartered a bus to attend the National Quilt Show in Arlington, Va., in July. A member of the club, Mrs. Victor (Mary Lou) Ridley will display her recently completed reproduction of the painting of "Christ in Gethsemane" in a quilted wall hanging at the national show. Mrs. Victor Ridley will also be a speaker at the national show. Her talk will be on "Michigan Quilters Sharing the Joy," covering the history of the art and about persons who became famous for their quilting expertise. She is looking for people who have historical quilts for information and to photograph them. Mrs. Ridley will also display her quilt at the Allegan County Fair. The Lakeshore Queen Bees Quilting Club will hold a show in April of 1982 rather than exhibit during this year's Blueberry Festival in July at South Haven.
