Alice Lane gave this quilt to her granddaughter Betty Rybolt on the occasion of her marriage to Harlan MacDowell on June 21, 1947. The five MacDowell children remember this quilt being used for many years on their parents' bed. Lane gave away many of her quilts. When her husband died in 1940, Lane moved from the neighborhood of her quilt club friends and found work as a housekeeper.
