Sylvia Idella Rathbun Menzies was born in Caledonia Township (near what is now known as 9518 Sanborn Avenue, Alto, Michigan) in a log cabin owned by her grandfather Orsemus Rathbun. Sylvia and Henry lived almost all their lives on a farm in Caledonia Township (now 8172 92nd Street, Alto, Michigan). Henry preceded her in death on June 11, 1944.
