The Monteith family owned a mercantile store in Sylva, NC in the early to mid-twentieth century. When the store closed, much of the remaining stock was moved to the Monteith family home in Dillsboro, NC. It is likely that fabric yardage and sewing supplies were part of the store stock then used to make quilt from this collection.
