Features or notes about the quilt's appearance, materials, or construction:
The following information was supplied by the quiltmaker: How did you choose the materials used in your quilt? "The materials were chosen based on their color and texture rather than on a fiber type -- I used many different fibers, not just cotton. The colors and textures were to suggest Red River Valley farm land at harvest time." How long have you been making quilts? "35 years." How did you learn to quilt? "Self-taught." What was your primary reason for entering the Lands' End contest? Do you frequently enter your quilts in competition? "Only occasionally. My daughter saw the contest theme and encouraged me to have this quilt entered." Has being a winner in the Land's End contest made a difference in your life? Has it changed the way you look at your work as a quilt maker? "I was surprised and happy to have won for North Dakota because it is a state with a strong quilting history and many, many excellent contemporary quilters, but it hasn't made a difference in my life or my quilt making. My neighbors thought of me as a celbrity for a short while."
