Approximate date the quilt was made is between 1939-1941. Date determined by: Agnes Castle Williams was married April 1939 and her married name is listed on the quilt. Vivian Dewitte Weaver was married in October 1941. Her maiden name is listed on the quilt.

The Friendship Quilt was in the personal belongings of the late Izetta Jewell Bucklew Cooper who passed away on 11 Feb 1985. Izetta was born 3 Nov 1916 in Rowlesburg, WV., the daughter of Clay & Agnes McGinnis Bucklew. When Izetta was 15 days old her mother died of Bright’s disease. Izetta’s maternal grandparents, Dent & Lydia Sisler McGinnis of the Campground Community near Tunnelton, WV took Izetta in and raised her. Izetta graduated from Tunnelton High School in 1936 and later married Don Cooper from Farmington, WV. and had three children: Barbara, Edith Jewell and Donny Cooper.

56 fan blocks,embroidered with first and last names of people who lived in the Campground Community near Tunnelton, WV.
Essay:
It is generally felt that the women of the Campground Community made the Friendship Quilt. It is unknown which organization actually made the quilt: the homemakers, the women at the Camp Chapel United Church or possibly the Ladies Aid Society. According to one source, the quilt was a fundraiser with each name costing ten cents. The embroidered names appear to be a copy of the person’s signature. The majority of the names appear to be couples who lived in the community.
