The quilt was purchased from an antique dealer in Valley Ford, CA. He bought it from a local family who claimed to know nothing of its history. Given that it is inscribed only with women's names, one could speculate that it was made for a young woman about to be married.

This quilt is comprised of thirty 10 1/2" X 10 1/2" Chimney Sweep blocks on point inscribed with women's names that are separated by blocks of the same decorative chintz.
