A unique variation of the Double Irish Chain pattern. Irish Chain consists of two blocks, one a checkerboard (in this case with 16 small squares) and an alternate block with a large unpieced center square and corner squares to match the checkerboard. In this variation, the quilter has only sewn the smaller squares on two sides of the alternate block, instead of the usual four. The hand stitching is evaluated by interviewer as excellent.
