See DAR 87.50 for quilt by same maker. See 2006.3.2 for quilt from same family. Amelia Heiskell [1760-1842] was the wife of Peter Lauck [1754-1839]a Revolutionary War veteran who ran the Red Lion Inn in Winchester Virginia. They had eleven children, six that lived to adulthood. Four extremely similar quilts made by her survive. Three are inscribed to three of her chiildren. Two are in the DAR Museum collection, two are in the collection of Colonial Williamsburg. This one was made for her youngest son William who married Eliza Jane Sowers in 1830. The quilt is inscribed "Presented by their Mother to W&E Lauck" (in banner in eagle's beak in center medallion). The quilt may have been made closer to the 1823 date of the other quilt made for daughter Rebecca [87.50] and presented to William and his wife upon their marriage.
