What is inscribed on the quilt?
This quilt made by Abigail Chambers Hendry born October 7, 1790 died November 30, 1882. The pattern is SUNBURST. Several authorities have proclaimed it of museum quality. If it were at some future time donated to the Daughters of the American Revolution [DAR] Museum it should be given in the memory of the Misses Anna and Meria Knight, great granddaughters of Abigail and her husband [unreadable word] John Anderson Hendry [1786-06/23/1834.The Misses Knight were members of Pennsylvania's Old York Road and Oak Lane chapters. They had five forbearers who served in the Revolution. One was Captain Samuel Hendry from whom the families’ membership in the Society of the Cincinnati derives. The others, all of whom served in the New Jersey units were John Reeder, Robert Chambers Ezekiel Anderson and Arthur Donaldson. Ezekiel Anderson was one of the guides who led General Washington's forces to the British camp on the eve of "[unreadable word] Surprise" January 2, 1777. Arthur Donaldson was engineer in charge of the defense of the Delaware River.
