Donor History: "My grandmother gave me the quilt and I have had it many years. She was born in 1812 and lived in Great Bearington Mass. on a large plantation they had slaves, but they had freed them. She was sent to a womans's private school and married Henry Carlos Northrup of near Boston. Her name was Elizabeth Phillips and nicknamed "Betsy." She died in 1904 at my father's home in Pontiac Michigan. She was a `lady' I remember her black silk dresses and beautiful lace caps. She loved me and I did her."
