Rated 4 (excellent) on HQPNJ' scale for visual effect. This fascinating quilt is signed and dated, mostly with the family name of Stratton. Place names include Philadelphia and Mount Holly, New Jersey. It is unusual to find an inscribed silk quilt from this era. The inscriptions seem to be in the form of advice. One says "Time is the way of life, he said, oh tell the young, the gay, the fair to weave it well". Another reads "Go to the ant thou sluggard, consider her ways and be wise". The quilt is bound with tape. Repairs near the edges are of modern silk.
