Describe anything about the history of the quilt that wasn't already recorded in a previous field:
The "Midnight Fairy Garden", and original star design by Elizabeth Landas, was made in response to the 2004 Hoffman Fabric Challenge, with the challenge fabric a brightly colored flurry of butterfly wings. Using techniques from a class taught by Irma Gail Hatcher, Elizabeth hand appliqued flowers in the shape on and eight pointed star. She "fussy" cut five petals from the same butterfly wing fabric and made larger flowers. She stuffed each petal as the applique work was completed. The points around each section of the star (feather-like star quality) were added with a machine decorative stitch. The trapuntoed quilting was designed to look like the center applique section of Midnight Fairy Garden. Elizabeth was inspired by thoughts of Fairy Dust (the name of the background fabric), then added metallic machine embroidery fairies, then named the quilt. Elizabeth incorporated a color scheme of a gradation of the color wheel in the star and flower design, which adds to the strong visual impact of this quilt.
