Describe anything about the history of the quilt that wasn't already recorded in a previous field:

Double Irish Chain Crib Quilt; ca. 1830; rare crib quilt with predominant colors turkey red, paisley print, deep (sage tone) green floral, off white. Hand pieced, hand quilted, reverse applique for feather petals in borders. Feathers not attached to stems. Outstanding visual quality and strong visual impact. Probably originated from the East coast. Block is 4-4 1/4 ", seven by seven set; twenty-five patch main block composed of 3/4" squares. Each four inch border has two sets of reverse appliqued feathers, with corner squares a floral motif, also reverse appliqued. In the course of RMQM's consideration of the quilt for the permanent collection, Ms. LaTourette learned that a museum member, Lois Knight, lost her son, Staff Sergeant Joshua Ryan Hager, U.S. Army, on February 22, 2007, in Iraq. Members and friends of Lois, began raising funds to purchase a quilt in Joshua's honor. Ms. LaTourette, who lost her first husband, a pilot assigned in VietNam, and who also has two adult children in the military, one recently served in Iraq, consulted with her family and decided this crib quilt should be housed at the Rocky Mountain Quilt Museum. RMQM is so pleased to house this crib quilt as a symbol of a mother's love for her child, and in keeping with that, as a symbol of new life that each child begins. Last, in tribute, that we may be reminded always, that mothers before, in the present, and mothers still to come, have and will lose their children to war. How Acquired: Purchased by the Rocky Mountain Quilt Museum from Kathi LaTourette of Evergreen, CO, through memorial donations for Staff Sergeant Joshua Ryan Hager. Ownership/History: Provenance unknown. Seller inherited the quilt from her mother, who was an antiques dealer in Ashland, OR. Sold to the Rocky Mountain Quilt Museum in 2007. Location Made: unknown
