This quilt top was made by Harriet Bowerman, of Como, Colo. She was the wife of Byron Bowerman, a C&S Railroad worker. They had four children (3 girls, 1 boy). Harriet was born in the mid 1800s and died in 1924. She was the family dressmaker and family doctor. She started this quilt top before her first child was born. The 30 pieced+appliqued basket blocks, made of red paisley on a white cotton background, are set on point. They alternate with plain off-white blocks. There is a narrow inner border (red paisley) and a wide white outer border. HowAcquired: Donated to the Rocky Mountain Quilt Museum by Lavenya Marsaglia of Reston, VA. Ownership/History: Made by Harriet Bowerman of Como, CO. Harriet was born in the mid 1800s and died in 1924. She started this quilt top before her first child was born.
