One of the original 101 quilts donated by Eugenia Mitchell of Golden, CO, to start the Rocky Mountain Quilt Museum. This quilt is hand embroidered in red on white fabric with historic buildings, people, animals and other objects. The batting is polyester. The binding is the top folded to the back with mitered corners. The quilt is hand quilted with a Baptist fan pattern in the center and cross hatch in the borders, using white cotton thread. The stitching is even 5 to 6 stitches to the inch. The backing is machine pieced white polyester fabric. "Mary" is embroidered in red on the front. Quilted in the front corner is "Quilted 1978 by Eugenia Mitchell." This quilt is embroidered with images to commemorate the Panamanian Exposition of 1901. The embroiderer was the mother of a woman named Pearl who moved to Colorado in 1905 and died at age 85 in 1980. Ownership/History: Original maker unknown.
