Describe anything about the history of the quilt that wasn't already recorded in a previous field:
This amazing quilt is made up of over 37,000 pieces, each approximately 1"X3/16", hand sewn together. The small pieces were joined in a herringbone type design to create blocks 12-13" square. These blocks were then pieced together into four large blocks, that make up the top of the quilt. The quilt includes many feedsack fabrics and scrapbag fabrics, some dating back to the late 1800s. HowAcquired: Purchased by the Rocky Mountain Quilt Museum from Jack Fortin of Mount Dora, FL Ownership/History: Made by Bessie Bailey Sanford of Clare, Michigan. She was born in 1873. At one time, Sanford had one of the largest button collections in Michigan. The quilt was made between 1910 and 1935 (before 1940). The maker died in 1948. The quilt was passed on to her daughter, Mabel Fortin, and upon her death, to her son, Jack Joseph Fortin, who sold it to the Rocky Mountain Quilt Museum. LocMade: Clare///MI//USA
