Describe anything about the history of the quilt that wasn't already recorded in a previous field:
This second of two Columbine High School Healing quilts measures 95-1/2" x 114" . Predominant colors are white, cream, blue and multi with blue borders and blue sashing. Blocks are made of counted cross-stitch and embellished with beads, charms and buttons. The quilt is tied. Blocks include various designs, maker names and addresses, designs include bears, flowers, sawings, people and animals; This project was originated through an Internet bulletin board. Blocks were collected and assembled by Kathie Baumgardner of Crystal, Florida. From the website: "We are a group of internet cross-stitchers from all over the world. Though most of us are strangers, we wanted to show that the internet can be a very positive place and that people truly do care. Here is our story... We felt a burden for the people of Littleton and wanted to do something to comfort them. What could be more comforting than a quilt? The quilt project started shortly after the tragedy and has been a year in the making. We have received 540 squares, lovingly stitched by a variety of people from all over the world, both young and old. The response was so overwhelming, the "quilt" grew into two king-sized quilts. The stitchers were instructed to select their own pattern, one that touched them in some way. Some deisgned their own square, some stitched holiday squares to show that these precious lives will be remembered all year round. The snowflake pattern was designed specifically for the quilt project by Melissa Fischer of Stitchin' Ovations. The "hearts holding hands" in the pattern represent love and thte flowers represent growth and peace. We would like to thank our generous sponsors who contributed financially and those who donated items used for the construction of the quilts. A big thank you to the wonderful stitchers who made it all possible. It has blessed us all to be able to participate. We hope the quilt will be a lasting treasure for years to come, and most of all it will show that Columbine will NOT be forgotten. May these quilts comfort you and help heal your heart and spirit." www.geocities.com/chsquilt The quilt was displayed in the Office of the First Lady of Colorado, Frances Owens, during April 2003. HowAcquired: Donated to the Rocky Mountain Quilt Museum by Debbie Paulson of Lakewood, CO. Ownership/History: Cross-stitched blocks were donated by women from all over the world in remembrance of the Columbine High School shooting in Littleton, CO. The blocks were collected and assembled by Kathie Baumgardner. The project originated on an internet forum for cross-stitchers. Presented in Littleton, CO at the anniversary memorial service (April 20, 2000). LocMade: Littleton/Jefferson//CO//United States
