This Grandmother's Fan quilt was made about 1897 in Harvard, Nebraska by Mrs. S. R. Sherwin. The quilt was given to Jean Dubois who wrote "Patchwork Quilting With Wool". It measures 76" x 69-1/2" with 81 7-1/2" square blocks fan in dark green background (1 red, 2 fan, 2 blue and 2 lt green). Decorated with yellow feather stitch. 4-1/2" black strip with yellow feathers. Edge finish is back to front 1/2", hand applied, butted. Backing is black and brown print wool. Embroidery thread pearl cotton chicken tracks pattern. Predominant colors are dark green with binding in brown print. Quilt is tied with a white ribbon 1/4" every corner. HowAcquired: Donated to the Rocky Mountain Quilt Museum by Jean Dubois of Golden, CO. Ownership/History: Made by Mrs. S. R. Sherwin, 1897, in Harvard, NE. The maker's daughter, Fay Sherman, gave the quilt to Jean Dubois, who used it to write the book "Patchwork Quilting with Wool." Donated by Jean Dubois. LocMade: Harvard///NE//USA.
