The present owner of this quilt received it as a Christmas gift from her mother-in-law, who traditionally makes quilts for all the members of her extended family. For years, the recipients of her quilts were decided in a Christmas drawing. The lucky person whose name was drawn would get to select a quilt pattern and fabrics, and that special quilt would be their Christmas gift the following year. According to the quiltmaker, "I've made all of them so many quilts we don't even hold the drawing anymore! Some of them have two and three quilts each."
QuiltHistF059
The lucky daughter-in-law who received this Cherry Ripe Quilt loved its colors and notes that "You could probably say the colors used in my new house derived from this quilt!" The quiltmaker made her first quilt, a Lone Star, in 1971, when she was "40ish."
