from owner: Made by Francis Shaw owner's great grandmother Francis Shaw was born 1808, probably in Maryland. She married Joseph Shaw and their first cchild was borned in 1827. They had seven children, three boys and four girls. Francis died in 18876. Joseph had a freight line (horses and wagon) from Baltimaore to Haggerstown Md. This quilt was given to Samuel Shaw by his Mother. Samuel was (owner) grandfather. Samuel gave the quilt to Joseph Shaw (owner's) uncle. Joseph gave it to (owner), and it to go to owner's son and then grandson. The red and color or the quilt is still very bright. The quilting and design fine and lovely. p 4 width of sashing 2 are 9", 2 are 12"
