Owner believes the maker may have brought this pattern with her from Virginia., Pg 2: Type quilting frame - poles on sawhorses Made most quilts - 1885 - 1930 James M. Egnor came to Lincoln County, West Virginia from Tazewell, Virginia and married Julia Belle Stowers in 1879, and brought her back to Lincoln County. Their second house was located at Sugar Tree and was a Sears Roebuck house (photos included). Ken McClure was the contractor who built it. The house is now burnt down. An oil well drill was right behind the house. Julia Belle Egnor made 13 quilts and 2 woven coverlets(one red and one blue) for each of her nine children. Her granddaughter, Nettie Egnor Stowers remembers the flock of sheep they had. She said, "Grandma and Grandpa raised the sheep and sheared them. She carded the wool, spun and dyed the yarn then wove the coverlets. The family had a big garden too". This quilt was made for the marriage of Julia's son Walter to Mary Rose Nettles of Kanawha County, born March 28, 1907. Julia Belle Egnor also made quilt #4-0037.
